Northern wall

Returning to walking the Hadrians Wall. I’ve prepared a small toolkit for working with the materiality of the place.. I also pack a tub of irregular shaped erasers, carving tools and ink stamp pads.

I search for marks and motifs in the wall that start a visual and tactile understanding of the place. The acid green lichens are working on the ancient wall, taking hold and biting into the rock, their vivid colour almost visualises the weathering process.

These are spontaneous drawings in a sketchbook for my personal thinking process. I think about sharing these drawings with others and the conversation I’m looking to start. I decide to photograph my sketchbook within the landscape, the surroundings merging into the ideas.
